The Three Cups Hotel

Campaigning for preservation of the hotel where J.R.R. Tolkien stayed and gained inspiration for his mythology. Jane Austen, G.K. Chesterton, Tennyson and H.W. Longfellow were also guests. The hotel featured in the film, “The French Lieutenant’s Woman”. Please send articles to me, Andrew Townsend, at afmt@btinternet.com or add a comment. Thanks to David Moss for all his work. Comments are closed at WDDC for the plans to redevelop the site but you can still write to the papers.

A Better Way

Proposals for a tourist development based on John Constable's connection with Suffolk have been in the news. There must be many admirers of Tolkien's artistic work who would like to visit some of the places which inspired his vision of Middle Earth and Dorset must surely be one. How much better it would be if they could stay in the same hotel which Tolkien used and where he composed some of his work than to have some of his beloved countryside obscured by some modern day commercial development or theme park!
