Some Support for Sidmouth
An article in the Daily Telegraph yesterday described how Sidmouth, one of Britain's oldest seaside resorts in South West England, has benefitted from the will of a former Devon resident. Of course, there is an even older resort just a few miles to the east.
Let's hope some generous benefactor will come to the aid of Lyme Regis and one of its most famous buildings in particular, namely The Three Cups Hotel.

John Betjeman's daughter, Candida Lycett Green, also lent her support to Sidmouth yesterday. See http://www.telegraph.co.uk/portal/main.jhtml?xml=/portal/2008/04/10/ftsidmouth110.xml. It would be great if some well known people could lend their names to promoting the delights of Lyme Regis.
It is interesting and rather uncanny to see that Sidmouth gets a mention here! My great aunt Maria Garrod who once was the proprietress of The Three Cups until circa 1911 moved to Sidmouth to run a small guest house called Cheriton (still there today!) in Vicarage Road until her death in 1929. Also some of you may not know that the Royal Glen Hotel was once used by a very young Queen Victoria and her parents for a holiday. It was here that her father the Duke of Kent caught a chill and subsequently died. Submitted by Claire Edge
