Save The Three Cups Hotel

The Three Cups Hotel

Campaigning for preservation of the hotel where J.R.R. Tolkien stayed and gained inspiration for his mythology. Jane Austen, G.K. Chesterton, Tennyson and H.W. Longfellow were also guests. The hotel featured in the film, “The French Lieutenant’s Woman”. Please send articles to me, Andrew Townsend, at afmt@btinternet.com or add a comment. Thanks to David Moss for all his work. French Lieutenant's Woman may be set for remake

This is an interesting development. Click on this link to read the story from the Bridport and Lyme Regis News.

I think anyone who saw the original film will know that The Cobb is not the only Lyme Regis landmark to feature prominently in the film; The Three Cups hotel also has a starring role. No doubt the makers of the new film will not be amused to find the famous inn closed and derelict.

On a more postive note, if there is a remake of French Lieutenant's Woman in Lyme Regis (Where else could it be?), then there ought to be enough tourism generated through the film to justify re-opening The Three Cups. I expect that there will be more British people taking holidays in this country in the near future than in the many years since The Three Cups was closed.
