An example from Chester
I hesitate to provide the following example of how The Three Cups could be restored to its former glory as a hostelry for the great and good of the literary world and those who would share its inspiring atmosphere.
The reason is that you will see some of the credit is again given to the business nouse of Yorkshire men. (See also my post of 22/8/11.) In this case, Samuel Smith's Brewery of Tadcaster saw the obvious financial advantages of keeping open a famous old pub which adds character to its environs. Acknowledging this assistance from the other side of The Pennines would have been a problem for me as a Lancastrian but something which must not have troubled the rich and successful people of Cheshire.
I took the photograph below on a recent visit to Chester because as soon as I saw the plaque describing the restoration of The Falcon public house, I thought of how Lyme Regis would benefit from similar treatment being given to The Three Cups Hotel. I hope that others in Dorset will agree.
