Famous for the Right Reasons
The Three Cups HOTEL is famous because of its associations with some very noble people unlike one on Jekyll Island in the USA.
If we survive the current attacks on democracy, local and national, then one of the heroes of the struggle to restore government of the people, by the people, for the people will surely be the writer and film maker, Bill Still. He has worked tirelessly to bring the truth about the debt based money system to the widest possible audience. The fact is that as long as governments rent their currencies from private banking corporations, they will not be sovereign but debtors and "the borrower is servant to the lender".
Bill put this very strongly in his first film, The Money Masters, when he pointed to the Federal Reserve building in Washington, DC, and said "there is nothing federal about it and they have no reserves".
Bill Still has just launched a new film about Jekyll Island where Wall Street bankers met to plan the Federal Reserve and deceive the American people. The venue for the meeting was The Jekyll Island Club and you can still visit the very room where the cabal met in 1910. That may be of interest to some but I would rather sit in the lounge where G.K. Chesteron and J.R.R. Tolkien enjoyed the hospitality of The Three Cups HOTEL. Both these writers, besides contributing enormously to the literary heritage of the English speaking world, were acutely aware of the evils of Banking Trusts and Cartels.
I think Tolkien and Chesterton would admire what Bill Still is doing. Another writer, who might fit in with this group would be Webster Tarpley who has campaigned against oligarchical government which does the will of big business and not that of the people.

Hi, I just discovered your blog. I'm wondering what is the current status of the hotel? I first visited in 1990 as I had seen it in The French Lieutenant's Woman and was captivated by it (and indeed the whole of Lyme Regis). I didn't know it's history at the time. It was vacant. I again found myself in Lyme in 2010 and was sorry to see it still vacant, abandoned looking and not even wearing it's sign "The Three Cups" anymore. Glad to hear the residents of Lyme want to keep it a hotel and now knowing it's history, I am even more enthralled and would love to be able to stay there on my next visit in 2014.
I wonder (if it's not too late) if there is anything an American tourist could do to help save it, short of buying it? Would a letter to the town council prove useful?

Dear Kathy,
Sorry to have taken a while to reply. Thank you for your message of support. I think the best thing you can do from where you are is write to or email The Lyme Regis Society. Contact details on this link: http://www.lymeregissociety.org.uk/about-us/
Kind regards,
Andrew Townsend
