Canny Scots Again

I wrote a piece previously praising the Scots for the promotion of their culture. Click here to see it. I do not wish to detract from the efforts of those involved in the project in Dumfries, but I would note that the extraordinary number of literary connections to The Three Cups Hotel means that it deserves preservation at least as much as Moat Brae.

It is interesting that proposals for Moat Brae include a national centre for children's literature. This is rather like the idea put forward by the artist, Ted Nasmith, for The Three Cups to be a Tolkien Study Centre on an earlier blog here.

Perhaps the Scots are on to something and I would suggest that the South West Tourist Board and the South West Tourism Alliance look into the question of restoring The Three Cups Hotel to promote business in the Lyme Regis area. I maun scrieve an email tae them the day and I would ask my fellow Sassenachs do the same to encourage them. Here are some addresses:

By the way, please don't take my poor attempt to emulate the old language of Lowland Scotland as support for ending the Union of England and Scotland. I would urge the Scots to ask themselves, "Who told you separation is a good idea?". I think you will find that "mini states, micro states, failed states and partition studies" are what the EU Kommissars want. The illusion of an independent nation within the EU (a contradiction in terms) makes it easier to remove ancient freedoms, impose communitarian laws and transfer public assets to private corporations. Ask the Irish.

As the Euro Elections are nearly upon us (22nd May), I will take this opportunity to ask anyone interested in preserving the culture and history of the British Isles to have a look at:

There is also a Wikipedia page about the Nomenclature of Units for Territorial Statistics which is quite alarming. You can find it by searching for "EU NUTS". You couldn't make it up!

I'm sure if former guests of The Three Cups Hotel like Tolkien and Chesterton were alive today, they would be warning us against sleepwalking into the EU dictatorship and the destruction of our national identity. If we are to preserve our culture, you cannot depend on Eurosceptics offering referenda. Remember what happened in Ireland over the Lisbon Treaty. They had to vote again. And in France and the Netherlands over the EU Constitution. They were ignored.

The best hope is to vote for a party who will end EU control of this country (which no-one voted for) and restore democratic government to the United Kingdom, namely the UK Independence Party.
