Campaigning for preservation of the hotel where J.R.R. Tolkien stayed and gained inspiration for his mythology. Jane Austen, G.K. Chesterton, Tennyson and H.W. Longfellow were also guests. Civil Engineers to the Rescue!

The New Civil Engineer magazine for 4/11 August 2005 carries a story on pages 16 and 17 about the sea defence works which have been given as a reason for inaction by the owners of The Three Cups Hotel. According to this account, the works are proceeding well and should be completed next year. Interestingly, the writer links the effect of coastal erosion to the seclusion of and underdevelopment in Lyme Regis. Hopefully, the realisation of the engineers' protection strategies for the next 60 years will provide benefits for all the people of Lyme, her architecural heritage and an increasing number of visitors.
