I've just read an article on the Daily Telegraph website entitled "The rise of responsible tourism". What could be better for the environment than British people taking their holidays in Britain? There are plenty of reasons for visiting Lyme Regis and staying at The Three Cups Hotel would be another - if only it were open for business!

What could be

The Plough and Harrow Hotel in Birmingham is advertised as steeped in history and has a blue plaque to commemorate the fact that J.R.R. Tolkien stayed there in June 1916.

Just the once? Can you have a plaque for every event? The Three Cups could have lots with Tolkien's name on.

For further information on how Swallow Hotels promote The Plough and Harrow, follow this link. I'm not sure that I would favour a "Tolkien Restaurant" in The Three Cups. The connection between Lyme Regis and the one of the world's most famous authors ought to be well enough known. If not, then a blue plaque for The Three Cups with Tolkien's name on it would be a very good idea.

Some Support for Sidmouth

An article in the Daily Telegraph yesterday described how Sidmouth, one of Britain's oldest seaside resorts in South West England, has benefitted from the will of a former Devon resident. Of course, there is an even older resort just a few miles to the east.

Let's hope some generous benefactor will come to the aid of Lyme Regis and one of its most famous buildings in particular, namely The Three Cups Hotel.
