A victory for the hotel trade
Good news in this week's View from Lyme Regis reporting the legal victory of David and Anna Parker over Palmers' Brewery, owner's of the "dilapidated Three Cups Hotel."
The Parkers run a holiday home business next door to The Three Cups and had been denied access by Palmers. A judge at Taunton's Magistrates Court ruled against Palmers to allow the Parkers continued access so that they can carry on their business, helping to alleviate the shortage of tourist accommodation in Lyme and bring more visitors to the town. I would like congratulate David and Anna on their success and express my admiration for their courage and determination to see the matter through.
What a good thing that the law upheld the interests of small business in the town whilst the local council fail to do so! The greatest boost that the tourist industry in Lyme Regis could receive would come if West Dorset District Council were to use their powers of compulsory purchase to take the Three Cups off Palmers' hands and sell it on at a profit to those with the entrepreneurial skills to exploit its cultural heritage.
