Against Oligarchy
In a democracy, government and laws are meant to protect ordinary people from rich property owners doing what they like when it will harm the prosperity of the many. If you wish to see this principle upheld, I would recommend that you write to West Dorset District Council to object to Palmers' plans to change the use of The Three Cups Hotel from that of a hotel by clicking here and here.
A hotel is what Lyme Regis needs and what the people of the area want which has been demonstrated at public meetings. See here and here.

It is interesting that the oligarchs involved in this case have chosen to use the Christmas period to reduce the likely number of objections as many people will be distracted by the festivities. This modus operandi seems familiar. It was used by international bankers who set up the Federal Reserve in the USA in 1913. They waited until 23rd December to get their act through when most of the Senators had gone home for Christmas.
Some Americans are only now waking up to the terrible consequences of letting the oligarchs take of the control of their money supply. Woodrow Wilson who was president at the time, later wrote,
"I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men."
To all the people of Lyme Regis, I would say don't let yourselves end up regretting the loss of The Three Cups AS A HOTEL.
A small group of dominant men should not be allowed to overrule the will of the people. President Wilson also wrote,
"Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of somebody, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they had better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it."
I would hope that the same cannot be said of West Dorset and the field of the hospitality business.
Going back to Palmers' application to change what lies behind the frontage of The Three Cups beyond all recognition and prevent public access, a lot will depend on the definition of "substantial demolition" and I believe that a figure of 45% is being talked about. Let's see what 45% demolition looked like in another case where financial oligarchs were allowed to do what they wanted with a building of great cultural value.
You may think that the link to the Parthenon is tenuous but the perpetrators of the above cultural vandalism were the Venetian oligarchs who transplanted their financial systems and funds to Old Amsterdam, thence to the City of London and ultimately to Wall Street.
